It is recognized that certain personal member/consumer information must be obtained by DCEC in order for it to provide services to members. It is the policy of the Cooperative that it will use due care and consideration in the collection, use and maintenance of such personal information to keep it confidential in nature and protect it from release to unauthorized third parties.

The Cooperative shall:

  1. Make available to prospective and existing members its policies and practices for the collection, maintenance, use and disclosure of Information that it must obtain as part of carrying out the service the Cooperative provides to members.
  2. The Cooperative shall collect Information only by fair and lawful means and only for appropriate purposes. It shall use reasonable means to maintain the information in an accurate and complete manner as necessary for the purpose for which the information is to be used. Member-consumers may have access to service, billing, capital credit and other related account information about themselves and may correct any inaccurate, incomplete, or untimely information.
  3. The Cooperative shall maintain Information using reasonable and appropriate technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect against foreseeable hazards such as loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, and improper disclosure.
  4. The Cooperative shall use Information about member-consumers in a responsible way for the purpose of carrying out its operations and to benefit of member-consumers. The Cooperative may not disclose such Information with affiliates, partners, and other third parties unless specifically permitted to do so by the member. Member-consumers may request that their information not be shared with affiliates for the offering of new products and services. The Cooperative will not sell, rent, loan, exchange, or otherwise release mailing lists or telephone lists of member-consumers for marketing purposes, nor to non-affiliated third parties without the prior written consent of the member-consumer.
