Planned Outage

Planned Outage

The Cooperative has been preparing over the past several months to make some upgrades on the Kortright Substation. The Kortright Substation work consists of replacing an Air Break Switch that is the interface between our transmission provider (NYSEG) and  the Cooperative’s Substation. The aged equipment has met the end of its useful life and has been identified as a huge reliability concern. Due to this we have scheduled replacement with new equipment and hired a contractor to assist in the installation. They requested a 10 hour outage to safely conduct the installation of a new Air Break that will hopefully last another 50+ years. We decided that a 10-hour planned outage was a better choice than chancing an unknown duration if we had a failure in the switch.  The advantages of a planned outage include:

1.) our ability to provide advanced notice to members
2.) ability to perform the work safely during daylight hours without adverse weather conditions
3.) the ability to pre-stage all workers and materials to minimize the length of the outage

The planned outage will be on the following dates:

Wednesday, August 14, 2019, 6 AM to 6 PM, consecutively
Rain Date: Thursday, August 15, 2019, 6 AM to 6 PM, consecutively

This planned outage will affect members in the towns of Kortright, Davenport, and Stamford. Additionally, members in portions of Delhi, Meredith, Bovina, and Harpersfield will be affected. Members that will be affected by this outage should have already received a letter from Operations Manager Ryan Sullivan. We will endeavor to keep the outage time at a minimum and we apologize for any inconvenience we have caused.

Due to the fact that the outage could last as long as 10 consecutive hours, the Cooperative encourages members to follow expert recommendations on how to preserve perishable food during power outages, which includes keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed throughout the outage, to the extent practical. Also, you may find the links below helpful during a prolonged power outage.

We appreciate your understanding and if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the Operations Manager Ryan Sullivan at (607) 746-9284.
